In the Garden of Glimmering Dew, the Great Summer Race was about to begin.
All the little creatures lined up at the edge of the Lettuce Patch.
There was Dash the Grasshopper, springy and excited.
There was Zippy the Dragonfly, shining with confidence.
And there was Bumble, the gentle little snail, calm and curious as ever.

“On your marks! Get set! GO!” croaked the Referee Frog.
Boing! Dash the Grasshopper shot forward in a single leap.
Zing! Zippy the Dragonfly became a streak of blue light.
But Bumble had only just begun, gliding forward at his own slow, gentle pace.

Zing! Zippy the Dragonfly was a blur of blue light, crossing the finish line at the Rose Bush before the dust had even settled.
“I won! I’m the best because I’m the fastest!” Zippy cheered, hovering proudly above the prize — a sparkling drop of honeydew.

Bumble hadn’t even reached the first pebble.
He moved with a rhythmic, sliding grace.
While the others were shouting and celebrating at the finish line, Bumble quietly continued his journey at his own peaceful pace.

Bumble stopped beside a silver puddle left by the morning rain.
To the fast bugs, it was just a wet spot.
But to Bumble, it was a giant mirror.
He watched the sunlight dance on the water and saw tiny rainbows glowing inside it.

A little farther on, Bumble passed under a broad green hosta leaf.
To Dash, it was just something to jump over.
But to Bumble, it was a Green Cathedral.
He looked up and saw the leaf veins glowing like emerald maps.

Halfway along the garden path, Bumble found an old fallen strawberry.
Dash and Zippy had rushed right past it.
But Bumble smelled the sweetness, took one tiny bite, and tasted summer and sunshine all at once.

At the finish line, the sun began to set.
Dash and Zippy were tired of waiting.
They had won the race quickly, but now they were bored.
There was nothing left to notice because they had rushed past everything.

Just as the sun dipped low, a small silver trail appeared near the finish line.
It was Bumble.
His shell was dusty, and he was many hours late, but his eyes were bright with wonder.

Zippy laughed, “You missed the whole race!”
But Bumble smiled softly and whispered,
“Actually, I think I saw everything.
I saw the rainbow in the puddle, the map inside the leaf, and the heart of a strawberry.”

That night, as the moon rose over the garden, the fast bugs gathered around Bumble.
They no longer wanted to race.
They wanted to hear about the rainbow puddles, emerald leaf maps, and the sweet heart of the strawberry.
And Bumble told them everything — one slow, beautiful word at a time.

Moral: Life is not a race to the finish line.
When we slow down and pay attention, we find magic in the small things others are too busy to notice.
Being slow is not a weakness — it can be a beautiful way to see the world clearly.
